David has long experience in manufacturing and has transformed workforce attitudes to health and safety though his non-nonsense practical approach, “making your business a safer place to work”, he has a passion for safety and delivering culture change

David Donkin is the owner of “Donkin Safety” and has a wealth of safety experience in delivering a practical approach to safety for SME size sites. He has gained his safety experience in his 20 years working for two of the world’s largest global manufacturing companies (Pilkington Glass and British Steel) in various health and safety roles and delivering safety improvement to large medium and small manufacturing facilities though out the UK and Europe.

As a ‘Chartered Health and Safety Manager’ with a strong engineering background gained in his early career working as a craftsman and after achieving a degree in mechanical engineering had a successful career in engineering in some of the toughest heavy engineering environments and manufacturing facilities in the Steel Industry.

David moved into Health and Safety after completing a MBA and has delivered success by working with the site leadership teams at single and multiple sites, in the UK and Europe. He has embedded safety management systems, auditing, safety training and behavioural safety invention programs and is seen as a leading figure in delivering behavioural safety culture change by his priers in the industry.

  • Behavioural safety-based programmes: having over 10 years’ experience and success in delivering to SME sites in the manufacturing sector.
  • Embedded safety management systems: such as incident investigation, risk assessment, safe systems of work, contractor control and permit systems
  • Proactive Review into Safety Management: linked to site safety improvement plans have delivered 20% improvement year on year.
  • Developed and delivered training for supervisors, focusing on employee engagement and implemented ‘IOSH Managing Safety and Working Safety’ for leadership teams and employees.

David has a passion for delivering a practical approach to implementing safety and delivering 50% reduction in accidents within 18 months.
